Who is Chris Kubecka, The Hacktress?
I work at the intersection of cyber conflict, digital security, intelligence, and emerging technology.
I am an ethical hacker, researcher, scientist, journalist, and cyber intelligence analyst, with a career spanning cyberwarfare, cyber espionage, influence operations, and post-quantum security. My work focuses on how digital systems are used, abused, and weaponized across land, sea, air, space, and information domains—and how to break them before they break societies.
I am a former United States Air Force aviator and Space Command operator (now Space Force), and the former Distinguished Chair of the Middle East Institute’s Cybersecurity and Emerging Technology Program. I have advised governments, militaries, media organizations, and civil society on digital threats ranging from nation-state hacking to authoritarian surveillance and influence campaigns.
I write about real cyber operations, not theory. This includes ethically hacking authoritarian systems, analysing hybrid warfare, exposing technical failures in policy, and documenting how emerging technologies are reshaping power, conflict, and democracy. When necessary, I also explain how these systems fail—quietly, catastrophically, or by design.
My relationship with computers started early. At the age of ten, I was arrested for breaking into U.S. government systems, including the Department of Justice and the FBI. The result was a long ban on computer access until adulthood. The curiosity never left. It just got better training, better discipline, and a mission.
This Substack is where I publish analysis, field notes, investigations, and long-form writing that does not fit neatly into policy briefs or academic journals. Expect cyber intelligence, geopolitical context, technical insight, and the occasional raised eyebrow. Coffee is involved. Frequently.
If you are looking for sanitized takes or vendor fluff, this is not the place.
If you want to understand how modern digital power actually works, welcome.
